| Samson Adeyekun 14 years as language services provider Nigeria Native in Yoruba Freelancer | Bio:
SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I am a freelance editor, proofreader, transcriber, and translator (English/Yoruba), working directly with clients for the past six years. Prior to that, I have over twenty years working experience either as a secretary an...d administrative assistant in the public and private sectors of the Nigerian economy, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). I retired from UNDP in 2007.
I am people-oriented, with ability to communicate at all levels. Apart from being a native Yoruba speaker, I grew up and I live in Yoruba land, so I speak and write both English and Yoruba languages fluently. | Checked in | Michael_G Architecture, Civil and the Others ... Native in English (Variant: British) Freelancer | Bio: Personal Intro: My name is Michael, an Architect by training and a native British English speaker. My lifelong passion for languages and for the written word quite naturally leads me to a career in translation and creative writing which led me to enroll for GroBes Deuts...ches Sprachdiplom (GDS) course and IoL Diploma in Translation (German;major, Dutch/French/Italian;minor). My experience in translation has come through working as an Architect + Translator for over 3 years in General, Commerce/Industry, Organic Product, Construction, General Medicine, General Engineering and IT Domain. As an architect, I'm stick to my PC 24/7, either drafting, modelling or translating. I enjoy every bit of these tasks, especially when everything seems to be flowing as you've wanted it. Moreover, I love challenges too and never stop learning, on every rising of the sun and setting of the same.
My Education: I have a master's degree in Architecture from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. I also have a C2 proficiency level certificatation in German and a continuing education in translation studies focusing on my working languages into English.
My philosophy: Translating is an unrelenting endeavor to craft words into a perfect work of art; it requires both technique, passion and talent.
Goal: Working freelance for translation agencies, providing translation services to clients where needed. Converting documents and articles from one language into another and ensuring that the finished converted articles relay the intended message as clearly as possible.
Objective: To find a challenging position to meet my competencies, capabilities, skills, education and experience.
Specialization: I specialized in all aspects of construction/architectural fields and the few subject areas mentioned in my intro, here or on my profile page. Moreover, I always try to run from legal text as possible irrespective of what field. Ask me why? "I always feel I don't get something right." Maybe because I'm not so familiar with legal jargon. And the funniest part, even for big-fat-dough, it just doesn't flow. (But I can pass it on to a colleague?). No, I don't breach NDA, so, I'll rather just press the decline button unapologetic.
Challenges/Aspiration: Convincing about my profession of being a native English speaker has always been my greatest challenge. But thank goodness for the offering to do sample test on some occasion. This helps a lot and most often leaves room for proficiency check if one is actually up to the set standard. My greatest aspiration is to hold MA in Translation studies as I also want to have my own translation agency here in my home country and from here want to be working reputably with numerous international clients.
Acknowledgement: I am boundlessly grateful for the platform of Proz.com. I have stumbled all over before landing here finally. And it has actually paid off, being a member for just 1 year. Also, my profound gratitude goes to those that I have let down, at least for giving me the opportunity for a trial and those that have allowed me to come to stay. You all keep the hope alive. I love translating, I love architecting and I love the dough more... See you at the Top! If Christ tarries...
More Less Message: Hello/Hallo/Bonjour/Ciao... "Doffing my hat for my seniors"... Newbie virtuality being made into reality.. Your footprints count... Thanks to Proz... |
