... it's probably because lots of users submit unnecessary support tickets. FAQs are there to be read, they are right to remind everyone of it.

Where are the FAQs? Jun 2, 2009

... although even if I knew, I probably still wouldn't bother.
I usually just want to find out a term, compare with previous translations or brainstorm new versions of clunky old ones. I don't know how the FAQ function would affect that...

I'd like to know from those manning the site - How many support tickets are submitted each day? What does it work out to per member say per month or per year?

How many of these could have been sorted out merely by reading and acting upon the FAQs, i.e. without actually submitting a support ticket?

I'm curious. Personally I remember submitting a support ticket just once - and I've been a member for just over a year.

I have replied "No".
I remember I have carefully read them 10 years ago when I subscribed for the first time.
Maybe I need an "updating session"
Frankly, when I think that I need some help from the fantastic staff - which is rare - it's because I'm convinced that FAQs would not solve my problem, and, secondly, because I have no time to read them at "that" moment.

While I cannot give you any actual numbers, I can say that support requests do go hand in hand with FAQs, in that they help staff to address areas which need improvement or clarification. While I cannot give you any actual numbers, I can say that support requests do go hand in hand with FAQs, in that they help staff to address areas which need improvement or clarification. Support requests on a given topic generally lead to a new FAQ, or a new development or improvement, which generally leads to fewer support requests on that topic, and so on... in that sense, reading the FAQs and using the support system are both encouraged and helpful.

Purpose of FAQs??? Jun 2, 2009

I'm a new user so I haven't ever asked a question. However,
1. I don't see the icon for FAQs on the homepage.
2 When I did find an FAQ icon under "About" it provided information about the functioning of ProZ.com, not translation questions.

Have I missed something?

Purpose of FAQs Jun 2, 2009

Exactly right Brooksa, nothing to do with translation - the FAQs are about how the site works. So when you cannot figure out how a particular feature works you should check the FAQs before requesting help.

Although a similar rule applies to translation questions in Kudoz - always check the glossaries before posting.
