What physical inactivity? May 19, 2013

I have two part-time gardening jobs.
I do housework - you should see the steep hill I have to climb to hang out the laundry.
I lift and shift my disabled partner at least ten times a day.
Any incidental walking I do will be up or downhill- Portugal is a hilly country - and I normally do it quickly.
As to sitting and translating, I stretch my back, arms and neck about every 15 minutes.
When I get up to make coffee, I stretch my legs by touch my toes while the kettle

My physical inactivity is best managed by closing my eyes and falling asleep!

Oh Oh May 19, 2013

Unfortunately I do not have time to exercise - am a family father with a couple of children and the worst thing about it is that I have to eat their rests!!

No seriously, I used to ride 60 km a day on my mountain bike for exercse in 1.5 hours, and would love to go back there.
Problem is to get everything sorted out (time management) because if I am not working, then I am with the children, and after that, working again. If there were a 36 hour day - which I would like to intro

I am working on doing something about it this summer (when it comes somtime this year - hopefully!!) and then I will be keeping to it after that.

I'd love to do more exercise May 19, 2013

I would really like to have more time to work on my body. I can't attend classes regularly so I go the gym whenever I can. Twice a week is what I aim for and occasionally I manage to fit a third session in. Unfortunately, exercise early in the morning leaves me feeling tired for the rest of the day, so I usually go on Saturdays and Sundays.

Well, usually I walk each morning at least one hour. Other types of exercises I rarely do, also because once I exercised home and after that I cant move one week because my back pain. It would be better if I could do some exercises with medical assistance.

No activity - AT ALL  May 19, 2013

Since becoming a full-time freelancer a year and a half ago, I've put on weight due to the inactivity - and it's the worst kind of weight - the kind that sits on the tummy!

I also spend at least an hour a day driving the children to school (more if I do pick up as well as drop off), as we don't live on a bus or train route.... oh dear!!

My dream is to move into town, so that I can at least WALK the kids into school and get some activity that way.

No real inactivity May 19, 2013

After having gained weight, I've decided to exercise while I work. There's a wooden board with rolls under my desk to keep my feet active (and the blood circulation going).
Moments of thought or even research are used to stretch or to otherwise "losen" the shoulder/neck/back area. And tucking in and releasing my belly can be done even while typing.

And today, living only a few hundred meters away from where the Carnival of the Cultures is in progress, swinging and swaying to

And today, living only a few hundred meters away from where the Carnival of the Cultures is in progress, swinging and swaying to the music comes naturally.

A lot of exercise May 19, 2013

3 hours a day: 2 hours hiking + 1 hour work out.
During the summer, I occasionally add 30 minutes of swimming in the Adriatic Sea.

T-tapp and running May 19, 2013

I do an at-home routine with a workout dvd every other day (T-Tapp). Once you've learned the moves, the basic workout takes only 15 minutes, and it is very efficient.
Lately, I have added running to the mix, and I enjoy it very much! It's a real stress buster and energy booster. I try to run at least three times a week, preferably in the morning, for 30 to 60 minutes - in a leisurely manner. I feel great this way.

But not regularly, once or twice a week, may be. I seriously lack exercise, and I need to get over this, for the sake of my own health.

I've become very inactive - help! May 19, 2013

Since starting to freelance full-time, I have become very inactive, which still shocks me when I think about how much exercise I used to do. What’s weird is that I thought the flexible work hours would mean I could do more activities, but the opposite seems to be true. When I had a set schedule and worked out of the house, I slotted in all my activities around my commitments and simply went without having to think twice about it. When I had a set schedule and worked out of the house, I slotted in all my activities around my commitments and simply went without having to think twice about it. Now it’s all too easy to get immersed in a big project or simply make up an excuse to not go out, especially when it’s cold and rainy. I have got to find a way to do more activity, to put aside time for exercise and never eat into this time for the sake of work.Collapse

team sport May 19, 2013

I love starting the day with a 1-1.5 hour run (usually 2-3 times a week) or starting or finishing it with a 1-1.5 hour row (usually twice a week). Apart from that I often go for a walk with friends as I find it a great way to catch up with people.
I too find it takes a bit more effort to get regular exercise as a freelancer than it was when I had an out-of-house job but I make a point of making time for it. Rowing helps a lot - it is a team sport (in my case) so there is not pulling out o

Rowing helps a lot - it is a team sport (in my case) so there is not pulling out of it because of poor planning: if I don't turn up, the rest of them can't go out on the water either so it is just not an option.

exercise regularly May 19, 2013

I get to the gym every other day during the colder months, and in the summer, go for bike rides after work (when I can) and on the weekends, weather permitting of course.
If I don't get enough activity my back hurts and i need to release stress. Of course, if i'm exceptionally busy and can't get to exercise then so be it.

Exercise 1-3 times a week May 19, 2013

I am so lucky, less than 2 years ago we got a brand new state-of-the-art fitness center across the street. I go there for workout and pilates classes every week, frequency depending on work load and deadlines.
