Report from  Anmol
Our powwow took place in the comfortable ambiance of the Cricket Club of India in downtown Mumbai. A myriad of topics of great relevance to translators as well as agencies were discussed for over two hours.

It was heartening to note the presence of several translators from the neighbouring city of Pune about 125 km from Mumbai. In fact, participants from Pune almost outnumbered participants from Mumbai! :-) Some attendees brought along other translators and agency representatives as well. The total attendance was around 10. It was unanimously expressed that the next powwow should be held in Pune. We look forward to that.

We were all new to a powwow, since none had been held before in Mumbai, and possibly in India. We followed an informal format. Starting with introductions, where we got a chance to meet the person behind the profile, topic after topic was taken up for discussion over hot drinks and delicious snacks such as bhajia, samosa, and sandwiches, including:

- ProZ and bidding ( it goes without saying )
- rates, both within India and outside India
- business issues and practices, including the interesting issue of export status for translators with clients abroad and invoicing tools such as Practicount
- CAT tools and their usage
- translation courses and certification.
- the market for regional language translation
- payment methods including PayPal
- checking payment practices on ProZ and mailing lists
- dictionaries and fields of specialization

The wide variety of languages represented by the participants was impressive. We even had someone who translated from Swedish into English! While French and German speakers predominated, Russian was also represented. One participant had even undergone a course in translation. Many of us felt that translation was a demanding, highly professional, and rewarding profession, and that it was a good field to be in in these times of globalization. Well, cheers to that, and need one say any more to show that the powwow was a great way to network, learn from each other, and share our thoughts and opinions in this very interesting industry!

We look forward to more in India.

I along with another translator reached churchgate station sharp at 5 PM on saturday and went on enquiring about the CCI. They showed us the BCCI, BHA and other clubs and stadia. But not CCI as indicated by you. Since I am not from Mumbai, could not stay long and left by 6.30 PM.
Next time please mention the complete address and some landmark also which will be helpful to people like me.
By the by, when is the next date proposed?
