mientras lucen aparentes

English translation: while they appear brilliant (or shining)

Spanish term or phrase: mientras lucen aparentes
Desesperá por la calle
buscando una salida
donde poder escapar
miradas por las esquinas
mientras lucen aparentes
mente en blanco y solamente
tú buscando un trago más

It's a bit of a stream of consciousness type song but the rest of the verse has the context... someone on the street searching for one more (drink or something else), but... what's "shining," or is that slang or what?

Any thoughts would be appreciated...

English translation:while they appear brilliant (or shining)
Explanation:
I think it actually does mean to shine here, because it's talking about the looks around corners that appear brilliant (or shiny), but have nothing behind them but a blank mind. I’m not 100% sure, though, because it's a bit abstruse, and because my literary sensibilities are not that sharp in Spanish.

lucir also means to display or to wear

Explanation:
hence, although this is a poem...lucir may not necessarily mean shining strictly speaking...I would imagine that women are the ones that are apparent, showing, shining...

or that seem be to be apparent, as Marina points out, please don't ask me the rational meaning, this is a poem after all :)

while they seem to appear

Explanation:
El diccionario Vox del español da como un significado de la palabra "aparente" como lo siguiente: "Que aparece y se muestra a la vista."

En este sentido, me parece que son las miradas que "seem to appear".

Just my take on it; this is not an easy one!

Suerte,
Bill

agree  María Roberto (X): El adverbio respeta el juego de palabras del original. "....lucen aparente (S) mente (S) en blanco...". Es imposible descontextualizar un poema de su universo poético. O sea: los otros versos.

-> María: a ver si entendí tu comentario: respeté el plural en "lucen aparentes". Después dice "mente en blanco y solamente tu"..

Explanation:
Looks/gazes not too clear but rather diffuse, vague or faded.
