in the context of my text, this means that the bids must arrive before a certain date and the fact that they have been sent before the deadline will not be accepted as valid. The text goes on to say that all bids received after the deadline will be returned unopened.
What I'm looking for is neat way to put this. Any ideas?

the postmark date will not be taken as proof of postage
So even if the bid is sent (and postmarked) before the deadline, if it arrives late then it will be returned.
