Parera mea ca "oral exam" este cel mai potrivit.

Cred că aşa ar fi mai bine (sau practical examination - Emina, dar nu toate ex. practice sunt colocvii şi nici toate colocviile - ex. practice). M-am uitat la definiţiile lui colocviu din DEXONLINE. Examinare interactivă (orală, lucrări de laborator, discuţii, mă rog - ce-o fi) mi se pare denumirea cea mai potrivită.
Dificultatea traducerii stă în neclaritatea a ceea ce _este_ un "colocviu" în româneşte. Poate să fie şi examen parţial, şi probă introductivă înainte de examenul propriu-zis, şi examen obişnuit, dar la care examinatorul dă subiectul (nu îl extrage examinatul), şi multe, multe altele.

Eu as merge pe varianta asta pt a putea reda cel mai bine natura examinarii.
In mod normal, colocviul presupune un dialog, o discutie intre studenti si profesor, in urma careia acesta din urma noteaza cunostintele studentilor. Deci, oral. In acest caz, traducerea cea mai corecta este cea data de Bogdan. Asa este si in dictionar.
Din pacate, la noi invatamantul e departe de a fi ceea ce trebuie, asa ca nimeni nu mai pierde timpul cu evaluarea modului de gandire a studentilor, ci se merge pe o scurta testare in scris(in 90% dintre cazuri irelevanta pentru ca se poate copia sau invata mecanic) si cu asta basta.
Varianta mea: sa spunem ca e cea mai 'diplomatica' si se preteaza la orice tip de materie de examen si mai ales sare peste lacunele invatamantului romanesc ;-)
Trebuie sa alegi in functie de text si in functie de ceea ce vrei sa evidentiezi in traducerea studiilor

'coloquium' este "nitel" diferit de ceea ce se face in Romania. Ma tem ca nu se poate traduce colocviul nostru de la universitate dat in scris sau oral in "coloquium" pentru ca pur si simplu i s-ar conferi omului care l-a sustinut atribute complet diferite de cele reale. Vezi link-urile:

Nu stiu daca am voie, dar pana la urma eu as vota pentru varianta "viva-voce" pentru ca asa este data in dictionare si mai ales pentru ca asa se vrea a fi un colocviu in Romania (ca nu se respecta intotdeauna procedura, well, that's something else :-) )
