German term

Berufsbild

German to English Marketing Human Resources Job profile
This is an article on global megatrends and new skills required on the market. Berufsbild could translated as occupational image. I have put job profile for the moment. I am not happy with either. Any ideas anyone?

Sie schaffen damit gleichzeitig die Basis für das Entstehen neuer hochwertiger Berufsbilder im Heimatmarkt

Im Spiegel globaler Megatrends entstehen dabei neue, hochinteressante Berufsbilder.

Wir haben es bis zu einem gewissen Grad mit einem Imageproblem des Berufsbildes zu tun

carrier path / carriers

I understand your qualms about 'image', as the source seems to adress the professional rather than the casual reader. However 'job profile' does sound fitting to me for skilled workers (Facharbeiter), better than my proposal. If on the other hand the subject is the professions or white-collar work, 'carrier(s)/(path)' is could be considered. Good luck.

My goodness: career path/careers of course, not carriers. Zu viele Laster im Kopf.

occupational image

Might be ok.

A matter of increasing the image of some occupations like truck drivers. Truck drivers are in great demand in Europe, but nobody wants to be a truck driver as there is no status...

So, there is an attempt to change the image people have of the profession.

job

I would say this is bad German and it's simply about new kinds of jobs. And "Imageproblem des Berufbildes" - "image problem of the image"??
Peer comment(s):

neutral hazmatgerman (X) : 'Imageproblem des Berufsbildes' could be 'negative perception of this carrier/job profile'?

agree Armorel Young : I'm inclined to agree. I thought of using "job type" in the first 2 examples quoted and just "job" for the third.

agree Paul Cohen : In other words, the German author could have just as easily used the word "Beschäftigung".

I'm a little surprised nobody has suggested this yet. Wouldn't this do?

profession

I would shy away from "image' altogether. I think the term profession goes a bit further than simply "job" and includes the German term "Beruf / Metier", meaning its a bit wider in meaning than "job".

occupational profile

I would suggest this translation since the term "Berufsbild" generally describes a standard set of qualifications connected to a certain job title. The Berufsbild of professions (like car mechanics) trained within the "Duales Bildungssytem" of Germany with mandatory curricula throughout job training clearly defined, some professions like journalists or PR professionals are discussing a minimal standard of qualifications in the course of a "Professionalisierungsdebatte".

Here's a dictionary definition of "Berufsbild" that might be helpful:

From the Langenscheidt "Deutsch als Fremdsprache"
Be·rufs·bild das; meist Sg; Kollekt; die wichtigsten Merkmale, die einen bestimmten Beruf und die Ausbildung dazu charakterisieren: Von der Stewardess haben viele ein falsches Berufsbild.
