Portuguese term

ME

Portuguese to English Other Education / Pedagogy
In a school transcript what does the abreviation ME stand for before a name, what would the proper translation be?

for example

ME Rubens Leornardo

Alexandra Gouveia Oct 7, 2008:
Hi, Tami. That's a good idea. One really needs to be sure.
Tami Bogea (X) Oct 7, 2008:
I agree we cannot rule 'Master of/in Engineering' out. My suggestion is to conduct a search in the internet with the student's full name: hopefully his academic background will be clarified.
Alexandra Gouveia Oct 7, 2008:
The reason I say this is because Master of/in Education shows up in internet searches both as ME/M.E or as M.Ed. As for Master of Engineering it is referred to as ME/M.E. I hope this information is helpful. :-))
Alexandra Gouveia Oct 7, 2008:
Hello, Nadine, I'm not sure whether it could be Master of/in Education as both mmasur and Tami have suggested or if it is indeed Master of Engineering.
mmasur Oct 7, 2008:
Sorry I don´t think I can help you.I thought that ME could stand for Ministerio da Educação.Since it seems to be a title and in this case a title for a teacher,I would Suggest Mestre em Educação (Master in Education). As for Esp.Especialista(specialist)
NadineDudley (asker) Oct 7, 2008:
Father down I have found two other titles. Prof, and Esp. Do you know what the Esp. title is for as well?
NadineDudley (asker) Oct 7, 2008:
Some of the names say ME and the others say Dr.
That is all the info there is with the names. Does that help?
mmasur Oct 7, 2008:
Do all students have this ME before their name? If not what other abreviations do you have? I have an idea what it might mean but cannot be sure.

Master of Education

As some students have Dr. the abbreviation for the Doctor's degree ('título de Doutor'), I am suggesting that M.E. could stand for "Mestre em Educação". Just an idea to discuss...

Also, to support my suggestion: Prof. stands for Professor; and Esp., for Specialist/ Specialization.

agree Alexandra Gouveia : It is a possibility.

Master

I feel it means that the person concerned has a master's degree, compared with Dr (doctor), Prof (professor) and Esp (could be "especialista" IMHO).
