English term

shuttle indicator

English to French Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng level gages
In "Metallic flags or shuttle indicator (hermetically sealed)"

Part of a liquid level gage. Could "shuttle " be "vanne"?

Discussion

Olieslagers May 8, 2009:
I agree! It's on the www.directindustry.fr site that I found the information concerning the shuttle indicator.
Tony M May 8, 2009:
See also 'tube/follower' in other question I've just seen Daniel's other question, where the context actually mentions a tube/follower gage, which I exactly what I think is being referred to here. The 'follower' would be the 'shuttle'...
kashew May 8, 2009:
Good multilingual reference site www.directindustry.fr
Sorry I couldn't nail shuttle indicator for you.

neutral kashew : These things are all mobile - it's the form/type that's in question.

maybe "rouleau"?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Mohamed Mehenoun : Je doute qu'il s'agisse de navette dans ce contexte bien précis...

neutral Tony M : I hesitate to 'agree', since I don't have specialist knowledge here, but I suspect this could be along the right lines: a sort of 'indicator' that's shuttled back and forth along a tube (cf. some electric kettles!) Maybe 'indicateur navette'?

Yes, seems like a good name, but I'm not French!
agree atche84 : equivalent du traditionel flotteur qui va et vient (shuttle) - "indicateur du niveau" fera l'affaire en ce maigre contexte

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Disagree with 'secousses' — the use of jog / shuttle in this way is quite specific to the TV / video industry etc., and not I believe relevant to this apparently engineering context.

thus the "indicateur soupape" suggestion

This may help...

Take a look at this document; although it's not bilingual, it does seem to explain quite fully just what the terms mean in the source language, which may be of some help...
