Hebrew term

בן/בת זקונים

Hebrew to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
The only way I can think of to translate this is
"last child of elderly parents." Is there a better way to say this in English? The context is
אצלך, שבע אחיות ושני אחים ואת בת הזקונים

Discussion

Mary Jane Shubow (asker) Jul 17, 2009:
Thanks to all of you. I decided to go with "the child of their old age" because it sounds right to my ear, because of the biblical reference, and because the context refers also to the facts that her parents were old.

Youngest child

I think that this is close enough, without turning to somewhat awkward options.

The baby of the family

This term refers to the youngest of all children, which I would describe as the baby of the family in regular English.
Peer comment(s):

agree Jonathan Orr-Stav : Idiomatically, this is the closest.
