French term

l’animation oenologique

French to English Other Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
Hello,

The translation is for a hotel website and includes descriptions of various Parisian attractions, conference centres, etc. This particular term is found in a paragraph about Paris' Wine Museum. I understand the term oneologie, however I'm not clear on what "animation" means in this context. Here are a few sentences:

Présent depuis 1984, le Musée du Vin, spécialiste de l’animation oenologique est à votre service pour faire de votre événement (dîners, déjeuners de groupe, séminaires…) un moment somptueux ; avec des animations œnologiques ludiques hors du commun : dégustation de vins, atelier des senteurs, intronisation bachique…

Thank you for any help/suggestions!

wine-related events

I think the word 'events' is more appropriate in an adult context and 'wine related' is more complimentary to the participants, suggesting that there is a higher cultural purpose here!!

agree whither has fle : agree..but I liked "entertainment". Problem being that the French might find this "frivole".

wine-centred activities

I think US English would be "wine-centered"

Depending on the context, you could substitute "events" or "entertainment" or turn it round eg "entertaining activities centred around wine"

Peer comment(s):

agree Melzie : I do think entertainment is coming on a bit strong... esp. as it is most likely there is group participation, though I do know of one, very funny, lady who does wine stand-up.

to liven up (the)wine shows

''Oenologique'' might sound alright in French but in English I would replace it altogether. The above translation is just one of many.

To bring to life, to motivate, stimulate, to entertain, anything that relates to conversation wine and friends sounds ok to me.
To animate is also good, I think.
