This term is being used here as the heading of a blurb to describe the contents of a book in its respective front matter.
I believe "abstract" is the appropriate term, but I want to confirm this with alternative opinions before I proceed. "Foreward" may work in this context, but this is technically not the type of longer introduction assumed by the term "предисловие".

The whole works! And who cares about the content?! Unless it's Hurry Potter, of course, which my book ain't.
BUT, as you see, it's preceded by a catchy "blurb" (to interest an average member of the great unwashed) called Book Summary
When the great Unwashed are a little bit less unwashed, the publishers may use "synopsis" or – for the barely literate – "book digest"
