Deutsch term

erkochen

Deutsch > Englisch Sonstige Tourismus und Reisen Luxury Hotel
Der Küchenchef ***erkochte*** sich bereits im Alter von 26 Jahren mit seinem eigenen Restaurant "XXX" einen Michelin Stern.

What would be the Engish equivalent of this term, or could I simply substitute it with "kochen"? This is for a luxury hotel and the article stresses that their new chef has added another dimension of indulgence to their concept of luxury. Thanks in advance!

cooked his way to

You can't really look at "erkochen" on its own. I'd say that the sentence here means:

The chef already cooked his way/managed to cook his way to a Michelin star by the age of 26 ...

agree Armorel Young : good solution (although to avoid sounding like Denglish I would suggest that it needs to be "had already cooked his way")

Thanks, you're quite right.
agree jccantrell : With mill if for the USA.--**--Sure you can: At the tender age of 26, he cooked up his first Michelin star at the XXX restaurant (or some such phrasing). It would be understood here.

It's a pictorial way of saying that he earnt the Michelin star (cf. 'sich etwas erarbeiten').

See the Linguee link here for some more examples of this being translated in a similar context.
