Fried or grilled (variety of) roe Explanation: I STRONGLY recommend you do not offer an explanation of what letones actually are!!! Much better to classify them as "different kinds of roe".... Otherwise no foreigner will ever order them, except for the "I ate fish sperm" stories they can tell on return home. http://www.verema.com/foros/gastronomia/temas/509910-semen-u... http://servicios.laverdad.es/gastronomia/consultorio/consult... et al - -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 13 mins (2010-06-07 14:08:03 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Sorry, the slightly more explanatory version should read *Fried or grilled variety of (fish) roes" Roe is normally used in conjunction with the type of fish, rather than just fish, as in "cod roe", "sea urchin roe" (Oricios yum!). -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2010-06-07 16:41:59 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I'm still inclined not to state more than is strictly necessary so as not to put off the squeamish! Carol's soft roe sounds an excellent option for milt/letones. But whether the huevas come out as hard I am not so sure - certainly not if it's oricios - or caviar for that matter. But I suspect this more likely to be cod roe or similar, which is quite solid and comes in slices. |
