Japanese term

ひげ状

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Engineering (general)
From this sentence in a document on electronic circuits:

もう1つクロックパルスの間に発生する細かいひげ状のパルス(グリッチ)を次のクロックまで保持しサンプリングするラッチモードです。

whisker [pulse]

The following sentence from the reference given below describes this as a 'whisper pulse'.

"Moreover, an erroneous operation may be caused by a glitch (a whisker pulse) generated by the crosstalk."

(Middle of 'Background of the Invention' section)

This is however an English translation of a Japanese patent, so doesn't necessarily mean that it is the normal phrase that would be used by native English speakers knowledgeable in the field.
Peer comment(s):

agree Joyce A : I keep seeing the word "whisker" on the subject of electronic circuitry....Apparently they're a threat to electronic circuits - from a nuisance to a more serious problem.

Thanks. Most (perhaps all?) of the references I have found originated in Japanese, so I'm still wondering if there's another more usual English word.
agree JapanLegal : I know I provided a different answer, but I think this is the correct translation. "Glitch" is correct, too, but the source text clearly states both, so "whisker pulse" needs to be in there.

Thanks. That's what I thought.

(narrow) spike

This is for the wider phrase, 細かいひげ状のパルス. I haven't seen people describing this in English like this; we just call it as a spike, or narrow spike as in the link below.

neutral JapanLegal : I agree with your assessment that "whisker pulse" = "glitch," but the source text clearly uses both terms and I think it would be inappropriate to brush the "whisker pulse" language aside.
