English term

site-run cables

English to French Bus/Financial Construction / Civil Engineering designing a facility
Because *site-run cables* and services can defeat the design intent and create vulnerabilities

It's a text about designing a safe and secure nuclear facility. I can't find how to translate site-run cables, I would appreciate your help.

Discussion

Hélène Curtis Feb 2, 2011:
and he just sent me another email... Basically outside services like gas/data are not as secure as the facility in question as they are utility services and not the facilities jurisdiction.

Hélène Curtis Feb 2, 2011:
site-run cables I asked my brother-in-law who happens to be a master electricien as to what it means. Here is what he had to say:

Hydro, and/or data services from there provider to the building... cables that are not part of the facility for process but for requirement, like hydro or gas coming to your house is a site service
Tony M Feb 2, 2011:
@ Asker Yes, undoubtedly, but that wasn't what I meant; what is crucial here is at what point the cables are installed — i.e. after design but before handover, or once the site is in operation.

I'm tempted to say 'sauvage', but that might be a little too strong for the register of your document!
kashew Feb 2, 2011:
site-run I think it refers to non-integral, late-additions (surface mounted or "slotted in" instead of encastré); but the French escapes me: non-intégré ?
Tony's readings are mine too.
Véronique Stone (asker) Feb 2, 2011:
I think these are cables are going to stay as part of the building.
Tony M Feb 2, 2011:
Potential ambiguity I can interpret this 2 ways:

1) cables that are run during the construction proces (on the building site) that were not originally planned for

2) Cables that are installed (after construction is completed) by the people using the plant (= site)

From what your text goes on to say, can you work out which it is?
