English term or phrase: to lurch away from
[THE LIGHTS GROW BRIGHTER] AS THE EARTH LURCHES AWAY FROM THE SUN [..]
I'M DEALING WITH THE TRANSLATION OF THE GREAT GATSBY BY F. SCOTT FITZGERALD.
I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHICH ARE THE CONNOTATIONS IMPLIED BY THE VERB TO LURCH AWAY FROM.
DOES IT MEAN "ALLONTANARSI" OR DOES IT IMPLY SOMETHING MORE FROM THE CONNOTATIONAL POINT OF VIEW?
MAYBE, A SUDDEN MOVEMENT WHICH MAY EVOKE LIKE GIDDINESS OF PARTY-GOERS AFTER DRINKING TOO MUCH?
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

guizza via da
Explanation:

. Describing the parties in which Gatsby "dispensed starlight to casual moths" (83), narrator Nick Carraway states, "the lights grow brighter as the earth lurches away from the sun" (44). Interpreted one way, this wording suggests that Gatsby's party lights are like stars, more visible after the last sunlight fades. Interpreted another way, it suggests that they seem more powerful than the sun, making Gatsby's garden grow brighter, not darker, after sundown. Either way, Gatsby's light seems splendid, but it also seems to overreach the limits imposed by nature, an appropriate effect for a man whose dream is to overcome time itself and "repeat the past" (116).

Notes to answerer
Asker: grazie davvero, ottimo suggerimento! hai colto perfettamente quello che intendevo dire

Asker: GRAZIE DAVVERO! HO CERCATO LE VARIE TRADUZIONI E TUTTE AVEVANO SEMPLIFICANDO OPTANDO PER UN SEMPLICE "ALLONTANARSI" , QUELLA DI CAVAGNOLI è IN PARTE DISPONIBILE SU GOOGLE BOOKS, MA NON RIUSCIVO A VISUALIZZARE I RISULTATI. PENSO CHE LA MIA PROPOSTA TRADUTTIVA RICADRA' SU BARCOLLANDO, O VACILLANDO... GRAZIE A TUTTI PER L'INTERESSE DIMOSTRATO NEI CONFRONTI DI QUESTA DOMANDA SU UNO DEI CAPOLAVORI DELLA LETTERATURA MONDIALE
