[Germany, 1925] Paragraph 218 outlawed abortion, (...) the organising committee for the rally (...) had asked for women ***‘in secure stations in life’*** to speak about their own experiences of abortion.
‘Self-denunciation for the cause’,we called it. Given the criminal penalties and social stigma attached to abortion, no one should have volunteered, and no one did.
Je n'arrive pas à rendre cette expression.
"dans une phase de stabilité" ? “vivant dans une certaine stabilité" ? "menant une vie stable" ?
Mais je me demande aussi si en parlant de sécurité, ils ne cherchaient pas plutôt des femmes à l'abri des manoeuvres des nazis alors au pouvoir, des femmes qui ne risqueraient pas gros en s'opposant publiquement à la loi.

: What are you basing yourself on to say it's an economical situation? The text in the quote is talking about legal and social problems, not financial ones. I think abortion is something that affects far more than just your financial situation.

Bien installé ne se limite pas à l'aspect économique, il peut aussi s'agir de la place dans la société, au sens "social", ne pas être en situation de fragilité.

I feel like you were in the right with your few sentences.
To me, this definitely conveys a notion of stability, not necesseraly in society but in all aspects of life, thus why I think it's necessary to stay relatively broad and use "vie stable" over "bien installée socialement".
Since the subject is abortion, we're obviously referring about literally all aspects of a woman's life, financial, social and especially emotional. Therefore, I just suggested a slightly improved answer of your own ideas.
