English term

hem lining

Non-PRO English to French Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion clothes
Good morning

I was just wondering what could signify hem lining in French? I have looked up in a dictionary and could only found hemline: ourlet. I know as well that lining corresponds to doublure so could it be doublure d'ourlet?
thanks

comment représentez-vous une doublure d'ourlet ?
Tony M Sep 23, 2013:
Probably That's certainly literally what it means: a form of lining used inside a hem to stiffen it, particularly (but not exclusively) in tailored garments. So the literal, word-for-word meaning would be correct — but we should maybe be wary of the fact that a specific technical term may exist in FR.

There are a number of good bilingual sewing glossaries out there, and you may even be able to figure it out by looking at some of the excellent FR monolingual glossaries that are also to be found.

Doublure ourlée

It would sound a bit more natural in French.
