Italian term

sulle prime si adombrava

Italian to English Art/Literary General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters Autobiography
Contesto (incident at a house of ill repute):

Sorry about the missing diacirtical mark.

Molte Grazie,

Barbara

Discussion

Lara Barnett Oct 17, 2013:
@ Barbara How have you translated the rest of the surrounding context? It may not be necessary to structure the sentences as the Italian does (i.e. I always join up short sentences like the ending of this if they have such an easy connection).

At first his expression would darken

I think quite a direct translation works well:

At first his expression would darken [but he would always end up laughing about it]

The first few times he scowled (at me)

He was offended at being reminded of that incident and gave a dirty look to me (the narrator).
