stain Explanation: See references below. Hope it helps! -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 53 mins (2013-11-01 23:55:06 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- http://www.moca.org/pc/viewArtTerm.php?id=8 ...artists such as Helen Frankenthaler and Morris Louis would stain their unprimed canvases by pouring paint rather than brushing it on, usually while working on the floor instead of on an easel or wall. From spot to line Explanation: It would be great to have the outline in greater detail online. :-) Almost no direct hits for the original Spanish... ENGLISH: www.echinaart.com/artist/DingYi/DingYi_Article4.htm describes his working method as like playing Go. 'I am not painting in order,' he says. Sometimes I put one point here; sometimes I start to put another point on the other side of the painting. '**From spot to line** and line develops into pattern. I structure my painting like playing Go. Possible words for "mancha" in this context: Blob, blotch, mark, spot, stain, smudge Interesting reference (although, surprisingly, it defines only one of these terms: stain). http://www.moma.org/learn/moma_learning/glossary#l SPANISH: http://tallerimaginarte.wordpress.com/2011/05/ ...Marcos empezó con el verde, decidió hacer el fondo, con movimientos enérgicos y disfrutando del pincel ancho. |

From stains to lines Explanation: See the explanation on this website: http://library.thinkquest.org/20868/ang/moe/plma.htm When you see a work of art done with lines you know it is a drawing. Yet not every drawing needs to be done with the use of lines. In fact many are made using stains, usually black or grey ones. There are also such drawings where we can see both lines and stains. "Sharp" and "soft" stains which exist in painting can also be used in drawing. Stains encircled with contours 4. Stains encircled with contours Stains with clear boundaries 5. Stains with clear boundaries Stains with unclear boundaries 6. Stains with unclear boundaries In this drawing (illustration 4) the stains forming a landscape are encircled with contours. This time the same landscape has been painted with a brush and could therefore obtain stains with various tints of grey and black. The boundaries between them are very clear (illustration 5). Once more you can see the same view, only this time painted with an aquarelle. The stains have become soft, as they had "spread" and their bounderies aren`t clear. Thanks to this technique the drawing has become more unconstrained (illustration 6). |

from blot to line Explanation: Warhol seems to illustrate 'blot' by integrating it with a line in some of his drawings. Pollock as well, but less than Warhol. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 17 hrs (2013-11-02 16:03:18 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- blot art is encouraged with as a beginning technique sith young school age artists. http://www.zartart.com.au/html/galhtml/galt411/galt411_Dingl...
