Spanish term or phrase: deshabituación
Have just started my second article on benzodiazepine withdrawal. Not sure of the best term for this, which did not come up in the first article. I have found "discontinuation" but am not sure. It refers, obviously, to breaking the habit but I need a more formal expression.

My reading was that "tapering" was being contrasted with "deshabituación", whereas "weaning" is just a synonym.

Asker: I can't use withdrawal anyway as I'm using that for "retirada."

dishabituation

Explanation:
I rarely use a 5, but I'm really certain about this one. It's a term used in psychology and the treatment of drug addicts.

It's not quite the same as weaning. 'Dishabituation' is specifically about reversing the habit, often used with 'habituation'. Examples:

Look at this too:

For instance, Baillargeon and colleagues [12] reported ****that gradual benzodiazepine tapering in combination with CBTi was more effective in reducing benzodiazepine usage**** relative to benzodiazepine tapering regimen alone. Morin and colleagues [13] reported that CBTi given to hypnotic-dependant OA led to reduced medication usage and improved sleep in the form of self-report measures, including decreased total wake time, increased sleep efficiency, increased total sleep time, and decreased sleep onset latency.

neutral  Neil Ashby: Isn't "tapering" used in the source the equivalent here of 'weaning', gradually reducing the dose. Don't the two clash if used together in the same sentence?//Yes I did, but your answer is 'weaning', they're two very different answers.

neutral  Muriel Vasconcellos: The technical term is 'dishabituation'- see my answer. My first husband was a psychiatrist who worked with addicted patients and he used the term.
