From a document about a variety of devices and detectors that measure various things on trains that pass them. This term comes up a few times and I haven't been able to find a translation. Technical texts really aren't my strong points - this is a small section in a larger job that I didn't spot when I first accepted it. Examples of it appearing are:
'un dessin d'assemblage des traverses creuses (ou équivalent);'
'La pose des traverses creuses (ou équivalent) nécessaires à l'installation des détecteurs.'
'Les traverses creuses ou équivalent (les plans au minimum) répondent aux exigences demandées ;'
These are all from lists of things that the detectors must have or which must be referred to in tender documents.
Any help from any translators experienced in this field would be much appreciated!

Oops, Lucy came with a similar translation, the only difference being that "sleepers" seems more in use in the U.K. while in the U.S. it's "railroad ties" :-)

| It's not hugely helpful - I already checked linguee and read through a lot of the suggestions, but there is only one occurrence of 'traverses creuses' found together and not just the separate words in the same sentence. This translates it as 'hollow tie', but since a Google search for 'hollow tie' only had one relevant result, I wasn't confident in this being an accurate term. |
