in that Estou deixando minha interpretação. O "in that" pode funcionar como advérbio:

in that
adverb: (formal) in or into that thing or place
(definition from WornNet)

Colocando isso na frase (substituindo "in that" por "in that place"), ficaria:

After fastening the fixing tape in the C-shaped outline of the hose the meniscus spacer is inserted and in that place held in the outward direction in a form-fitting manner.

Com base nisso, eu sugeriria
"... é inserido e ali mantido, na direção...".

Como essa sugestão não traz nenhuma novidade com relação às sugestões já postadas pela Dani e pelo Mario (é praticamente a mesma coisa), não vou postar, mas deixo aqui, caso considerem útil de alguma forma.

Questão de interpretação (vírgulas ajudariam) O trecho "...the C-shaped outline of the hose the meniscus spacer is inserted and in that held in the outward direction..." a meu ver deveria ser:
"...the C-shaped outline of the hose the meniscus spacer is inserted and, in that, held in the outward direction..."
Ou, melhor ainda:
"...the C-shaped outline of the hose the meniscus spacer is inserted and held therein, in the outward direction..."
A falta de vírgulas ou a construção com termos indevidos causa a dúvida.
Segundo esta interpretação, vou sugerir uma tradução.
