PS: I've removed my answer because I should have put "nulliparous" instead of "primiparous". Mea culpa.
neilmac Aug 27, 2018:
Typo ... as suggested by Marie seems the most likely situation.

MAIDEN EWES

This could be a typo for "encarnerar," which seems to mean breed, and as this is about borregas, young ewes, it fits.

MAIDEN EWE: A female that has not been bred by a ram.The term is commonly applied to ewes that have not had their first lamb.

Choosing the right age to breed maiden ewes
Determining the optimum age for first breeding maiden ewes isn't always straightforward - there will be gains in some areas and losses in others. For example, delaying maiden ewe breeding for 12 months will result in higher wool production from the ewe, but this needs to be carefully weighed-up against the potential for fewer lambs over the ewe's productive life cycle.

I gave a low confidence level because always have to be wary of typos. There's even a video:2 y 4D borregas sin encarnerar - YouTube, from Uruguay, which I think your previous question was from.

agree neilmac : With typo too. AKA "unmated/first-timer/nulliparous"....

Thanks Neil. Though I'm not sure if primiparous is the same, I think these are ewes that haven't even met up with the "carnero"/ram. //Now that's a fancy word.

I invest in this area but the idea of feedlots (although a good deal) is simply abhorrent ... let them graze on grass...

if you eat meat of any description no argument (and I do) but at least let them live out their lives in the best circumstances

Ovine livestock

In the majority of technical papers on ovine livestock, ewes are most often categorised according to their reproductive status:
nulliparous - when they have not yet lambed
primiparous - when they are in or around their first lambing
multiparous - when they have had several litters.
In my my experience, "hoggets" is a term more often used by farmers and in publications more oriented towards the meat farming community. More scientifically focused journals tend to classify the sheep according to their reproductive status.

agree Marie Wilson : But I still prefer "maiden."
