German term

Bestandspflege

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Pensions/Computer Software
I'm working on requirements specifications for pensions software and the term that has confused me is Bestandspflege.

Ordinarily I would translate this as "inventory maintenance" where inventory refers to data in a software context. However, previous translators have translated Bestandsfall as "pensioner record" and "beneficiary record".

So does Bestandspflege actually mean "record maintenance"?

The other KudoZ entries relating to this term (where it is translated as help and support for businesses) do not apply here.

Examples of the term so far:

* Bestandspflege – Erfasser kontaktiert den Leistungsträger bzgl. der nachträglichen Genehmigung der Vorschusszahlung
* Funktionsbaum 11XX (Funktionen zur Bestandspflege von Inlandsrenten)
* Bestandspflege Erfasser
* SOFTWARENAME ordnet die nachträgliche Genehmigung dem Bestandspflege – Erfasser zur Bearbeitung zu (zukünftig über das Contact Center)

This is one of those cases where I have over-complicated something that I suspect is really simple and I'd be grateful for someone just to confirm the right term please.
Proposed translations (English)
4 +1 data maintenance
4 record maintenance
4 master data management

Discussion

Bestand is often portfolio in finance contexts It is hard to tell from your examples whether this would apply here.

"Portfolio maintenance/updating" is certainly something that can be done by a pension fund, however.

master data management

In your specific context and the examples you've mentioned, I'd assume that they are talking about managing their master data. Actually found the most basic explanation of the term on Wikipedia. But it is also what I know from translating Oracle products.
