The model of human perfection in form and character Explanation: A difficult word to translate is أكمل. It is the superlative form of كامل, which does not accept superlatives because it has no degrees. You can overcome this difficulty by using "the model of human perfection." The person thus described is supposed to be a model anyway: لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسـنة Therefore, his perfection is not just for himself, but also for us. The second part: خَلقاً وخُلقاً I feel somewhat awkward referring directly to his physicality. To my ears, speaking of the "human form" points to something more transcendent and worthier of praise than just a body. I feel likewise awkward referring to his "morals" because it sounds as if I am judging his interior disposition. Instead, "character" refers to the stature of everything he said and did as a transcendent whole and a model for the ages. That is my take. |
