On another occasion, in fact the first time we’d been on the hills with him, we were up at the 601 m summit of Cerro de las Águilas. Immediately by the trig point are three stones, set vertically in the ground to form three sides of a square. We’d seen these before but only now realise that this is one of Antonio’s ‘mountain fireplaces’. However, he’s sniffing the wind and he decides there’s too much aire (breeze), so we drop 30 metres or so down the west side of the hill to another of his fireplaces.

It simply means that the three stones were set like three walls of a square room in order to set up a fire inside this square. The missing wall is were the person building the fire can access it.
