French term

plateforme de rattachement

French to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Order management systems
Hello all,
I'm translating a document about order management systems/solutions. I'm not quite sure what "plateforme de rattachement" would be. Something like a designated logistics platform/distribution centre? Grateful for any suggestions.

Discussion

Anne Greaves (asker) Jul 14, 2022:
Hi, as regards the meaning of magasins, I'm taking it to mean store as entrepôt is used widely though the text.
Lisa Rosengard Jul 13, 2022:
It looks like it's a general type of a store or storage space situated in a building or on a platform adjacent to the shop, or attached on to the shop. There's also a warehouse and a few other shops in the same setting, all connected or joined together.
Conor McAuley Jul 13, 2022:
Seems to mean both, Catherine... https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/B2B2C

"B2B2C est un sigle combinant « B2B » (business to business) et « B2C » (business to consumer), caractérisant des échanges en ligne via un intermédiaire1 ;

B2B2C concerne « l'ensemble des transactions destinées à un client professionnel qui, lui, s'adresse ensuite au marché des particuliers »2 ;"

...but given that "magasin" (store, bricks and mortar, presumably) is mentioned is each bullet point, you have to draw a certain conclusion...but it's a curious one.

The overall context should be telling.
Catherine Earle Jul 13, 2022:
Ecommerce platform I suspect that the tool in question handles more than just distribution logistics, because of the mention of B2B2C (the "C" being "consumer"). An Ecommerce platform can handle both wholesale/distribution transactions and consumer orders. See https://www.shopify.com/blog/best-ecommerce-platforms.
philgoddard Jul 13, 2022:
Plateforme often means website or portal. I don't know if that's the case here.
Conor McAuley Jul 13, 2022:
My assumption is it's wholesale, then retail, the whole process.

Like fruit & veg supplier delivers to distribution centre (wholesale), which delivers to stores (retail), that's what I understand by "B2B2C".
Bourth Jul 13, 2022:
what sort of 'magasins' As in warehouse, or as in retail outlet?
In 'aux magasins liés à la plateforme de rattachement du magasin' I suspect you have both, but which is which?

A store's designated distribution centre

See https://www.thenxgroup.com/2017/01/24/tesco-distribution-cen...

"Tesco Distribution Centres
We cannot provide contact information for Tesco and do not provide their distribution.

The big four supermarkets in the UK all have warehouses and depots that handle the supply chain, and there are a total of 20 Tesco ***distribution centres*** in England and Scotland.

These are for the storage of inventory, before the goods are distributed to the various individual Tesco stores."

Further down the article:

"...so it is important to ensure that such ***deliveries*** are done efficiently and on time."

Notes:

- The word "store" used to be US English but has replaced "shop" in recent years;
- I prefer my bullet points with capital letters and semi-colons, but I think the "fashion", so to speak, has moved on!

Hope this helps!

connection platform

I suggest this because the fragment was not still clear. Whether it's an online of offline platform. If the former, it could also be called Plateforme de raccordement...
Example sentence:

The connection platform where people meet

distribution hub

Although this is not exactly in the French "plateforme de rattachement",it pretty much is that if you look at the body of the text, which suggests that different stores are supplied by different centres. And that's the image that "hub" has for me.

delivery/logistic/distribution hub/platform

I don't have a time-honored translation for this (someone else may, though), but my understanding is that the idea you need to convey is that it's obviously a centre where goods converge to and are distributed from, but the additional bit of information is in "rattachement". This means it isn't just any centre, but the specific platform that serves (among others) the store where the order was placed. Other stores in the network will be served by others hubs, when orders are placed with them. Hope it helps.
