Insurance / Investigation into the causes of a fire
German term or phrase: Verschlusssituation
This report describes a fire that had broken out in a building rented to a tenant. The roof was currently being repaired. The text is as follows: "Durch das offene Dach lag keine Verschlusssituation vor. I know what they mean but an appropriate term escapes me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

English translation:barrier/sealed environment
Explanation:
The open roof did not provide a sealed environment (to slow/contain/prevent the spread of fire)

Compare with this:
"It also contributes to the creation of a sealed environment to contain hazardous levels of smoke and to maintain adequate concentration of
the extinguishing agent."

Because of the open roof, there was no way to contain the blaze.

agree  philgoddard: Could be, but we need German references, not English ones.//My point was that your reference didn't serve any purpose, since we know "contain the flames" is a phrase in English. You've now rectified this, so I'm agreeing.
