Spanish term
Tope colapsable
Spanish to English
Tech/Engineering

Car assembly
Presumably it's a part to protect the car that can be folded down/back. It's fastened onto the body by "clips de fijación". The general idea is obvious but I need the correct technical term in English.
"Se deben diferenciar los contra topes entre los de la zona anterior de la zona posterior/lateral del mismo modelo para evitar errores de montaje". I'm afraid there isn't any more context.
I'm reluctant to use the term "buffer" as it's already used in car assemblies to refer to "pools" of parts that can be reinserted into the assembly line to keep the whole process going smoothly.

Retractable roof
This is the translation that makes most sense here. I suggest 'roof' as there's no information as to what the materials are.

Note from asker:
I tend to agree with philgoddard. Plus the fact that it can be placed both at the front and also the rear/side also suggests it's not a roof |

: Your references don't prove that tope means roof.

: False friend: a "tope" is never a "roof", and the context implies it isn't that anyway.

Collapsible stopper
I´m just offering a possible alternative. Cheers.
Note from asker:
Many thanks for the suggestion. As I've explained in the discussion, I've had to resort to a literal translation and have used "buffer" as that's what they resemble in the photo. Thanks again |
Discussion
"Our pedestrian protection system reduces the risk of head injury in the event of a collision. Within 10-15 milliseconds of an impact, the active hood of the vehicle is triggered and raised by special actuators. This reduces the risk of death or severe injury to the pedestrian from hitting the hood and underlying engine block."

"El tope colapsable se monta debajo del capó del vehículo y se activa cuando un peatón golpea el frontal del automóvil. Este novedoso producto suelta el capó mediante un muelle, separándolo del motor y disminuyendo la fuerza con la que el peatón golpeará contra él"
It's a safety device that reduces the impact if the car hits a pedestrian, though I can't visualise it:

Alberto may be on the right lines with "stopper":

You say 'a part to protect the car that can be folded down/back. It's fastened onto the body by "clips de fijación"'. Could we have the Spanish for this?
