This is for a posh events creation business in Paris (e.g. they did the Mittal wedding.
I can't think of anything other than "temporary decoration" (which doesn't sound as "pretty" as the French, bien sur) and was wondering if people had seen this before.

: Nice suggestion. "Functions" is another word that springs to mind for these sorts of occasions ("decor/decoration for functions")

Comment: "Thanks to everyone. Many of the suggestions could have worked, but this is one I went with. I agree with event decoration being temporary by definition - the event doesn't last forever so neither will the decor. Of course, that same logic could apply to the French, so I need to take into account that they *chose* to use epheremere to add a certain flair (they feel) to the text. I've tried to compensate for this in the general "over-the-top" writing style that they're after. Thanks again to everyone for your suggestions and research."

I was just about to add the suggestion \"one-off\", when I was CMJ_Trans had it in his/her (sorry, I\'ve forgotten which) explanation. It is the same basic concept as \"ephemeral\" (almost), but less wanky.

ON THE SUBJECT OF WANKINESS: I am not suggesting (as Jane seems to think) that French is intrinsically wanky. I quite like French, and almost all of my reading for pleasure is of work written in French. But that particular sentence is VERY wanky. I am always amazed at how like one another wanky French and wanky English can be--word-for-word translation seems to be almost always not only possible, but also the best option. I suspect that this is because wanky authors in the two languages have been stealing ideas from one another for centuries.

You may think that this is completely over the top, but I liked the word and so thought I'd add it to the list of suggestions. You could, possibly, also use 'festive decorations', but that may be too far from the implications in French

I'm going to keep mulling this over for a while, thanks for the brainstorming everyone.
The term in question appears throughout the document, and there are actually plenty hits in google, it appears to be an expression used quite a lot in French events creation, but as of yet I can't find anything like it in English.
