Explanation:
El texto se refiere a Indravarman I, emperador jemer entre 877/78 y 889/890 d. C. (Hariharalaya está en lo que es hoy Camboya.) Por lo tanto, las "divinities" son hindúes, siendo ésta la religión del imperio jemer en esta época.

Existen ninfas acuáticas en la tradición hindú: las Apsaras, cuya misión era bailar en el paraíso de Indra. Sin embargo, estas "aquatic divinities of the soil" no pueden ser ellas. La palabra adecuada es "divinidades"; otra posibilidad sería "deidades".

Para "soil", habrá que poner "tierra"; no veo otra posibilidad. Sin embargo, tiene que escribirse con t minúscula, para no confundirse con la Tierra (el mundo).

agree  Richard Boulter: I think I need to agree with Charles on this: 'divinidades'. Especially since we don't have the general context/readership of the piece, 'nymphs' (technically correct = 'goddesses') suggests 'minor, sexually-attractive & magical' in general modern lingo.
