History / Description of historic building
English term or phrase: Central heating plant
I am editing one of the worst translated texts I have ever seen --more than 20 years of profession, if that accounts for something. It goes to SPAIN.
I have fixed so many mistranslation, I no longer trust anything --it's a 60,000 word job!
This is one phrase that has me doubting.
a description of a WWII building in Norway
"The building was converted into a jail by the Germans with the addition of a fuel room and a guardroom, and a central heating plant was installed."
Their translation (not edited at all):
"El edificio fue convertido en cárcel por los alemanes con la incorporación de una sala de calderas y unas celdas, y se instaló una planta de calefacción central."
What do you guys understand for fuel room (¿cuarto de calderas?); guard room (¿puesto de guardia?), and especially central heating plant (¿central térmica?)
Thanks for any and all help!

planta de calefacción central
Explanation:
At the time it was one of Malmö’s first public housing areas and was almost self-sufficient, supported by its own coal-fuelled ***central heating power plant***.

En esa época era una de las primeras zonas de vivienda pública de Malmö y era prácticamente autosuficiente, manteniéndose con su propia ***planta de calefacción central*** que funcionaba con carbón.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I had seen that one too, but the translation sounded very literal. In Spain, I have seen several large campuses that include their own "central térmica", thus my question... let's see what our peers have to say :-) THX!

agree  Beatriz Ramírez de Haro: Sí, creo que la traducción literal es la correcta en este caso. "Central térmica" sería "power plant/station"

-> Muchas gracias, Beatriz. Sí, "heating" es "calefacción".

agree  marcom4 (X): entiendo que se instaló calefacción central /centralizada.. con las calderas y el fuel carbón o el combustible que sea en el "fuel room " cuarto de calderas.

  -> Muchas gracias, marcom4.

agree  JohnMcDove: Aunque vivo en EE. UU., soy de Barcelona (Spain), de padres manchegos... (como mi nombre indica, ;-) Frivolidades aparte, totalmente de acuerdo.
