precarious and difficult work
Prosaic, maybe, but it does get the general idea without sounding clunky or inappropriate (like "acrobatic").

aerial works
This term refers to any type of wors carried out using equipment deriving, for the most part, from mountaineering and rock climbing to reach high, difficult of access areas for construction, maintenance, cleaning etc. and which cannot or would be impossible and/or too expensive/time-consuming to reach by conventional scaffolding.

After some further Googling, I am going to retract "aerial works". Companies specializing in this type of work all sem to use the term "rope access" works. See: http://www.proaltus.co.uk/rope_access_explained.htm

Travaux acrobatiques Abseil inspection [CW]. Rope access work [Web] Cf cordiste.
This has come up here before so there must be some trace of previous discussion.
Googling "abseil inspection" should bring up lots.
