הוספת בקרות והעמקת תוצרים

Hebrew to English Other Computers: Software
בבקשה עזרה עם המשפט
I was thinking: Supplementation of controls and deepening of products.
Can it be? Is is right?

Discussion

Ron Armon Dec 19, 2008:
Thanks Naty! Thanks bbt-ruth
Naty Schwartz Dec 19, 2008:
I agree with Ron's last comment - control tools or procedures for בקרות.
So the translation should be than: Adding control tools/procedures and expanding/enriching outputs.
Hag Sameach everyone.
Naty Schwartz Dec 19, 2008:
OK, I've just realized that we mistakenly read מוצרים instead of תוצרים.
Therefore I suggest using output instead of products. IMHO the context is industrial management or system analysis (תעשייה וניהול או ניתוח מערכות).
Ruth Rubina (asker) Dec 19, 2008:
יישוםת הטמעה והגרכה למערכת המשודרגת:
א - התקנה והדרכה
2. העברת בקרות ממערכת קיימת אל סססס
3. **הוספת בקרות והעמקת תוצרים**
4. דוחות מנהלים
Ron Armon Dec 19, 2008:
Then, can you please give the rest of the list (or part of it),
and also, if possible, the heading or last line just before the beginning of the list?
Ruth Rubina (asker) Dec 19, 2008:
This is listed as one of the tasks a company performed and now it is charging for it.
Ron Armon Dec 19, 2008:
Context is critical!
Example: If the text is a guidebook for software developers (not "about", but "inside" softwre) then you can't use "controls", because those are פקדים (like buttons or combo-boxes), and בקרות are checks on user input - "validations".
Shai Navé Dec 18, 2008:
Can you provide additional context?

Adding new Validations and enriching Outputs

Usually validation would be תיקוף,
but in context it is used in Hebrew for בקר(ו)ת נתונים
or בקר(ו)ת קלט.

It can still be both... but I'd believe that in this context בקרות refer to parts of program aimed at validating input/data/transaction etc.
For תוצרים I also wouldn't use products (it may be miconceived as מוצרים) - It probably means products of/within the application - like reports etc. - hence I'd use "outputs"

here's the list:

2. Applying (/Transfering) validations from the previous system to oooo.
3. *** Adding new Validations and enriching Outputs ***

you can change "enriching" to "deepening", but I believe that's the meaning.

The above is based on my experience as a software developer in the Israeli IT industry & a CIO in an Israeli organization (past and present).

"Controls" is perfectly correct. It's just that "adding controls" in application development would be missunderstood.
Peer comment(s):

agree Naty Schwartz : I agree with outputs. It could also be deliverables but I guess outputs is more general an hence better in this context. Please see also my comment regarding validations. Cheers

You're right in your comment Naty, and "Controls" is perfectly correct. It's just that "adding controls" in application development would be misunderstood. Perhaps - "adding control tools" or "control procedures" would fix that.

Increased controls and product expansion

Or "increased controls and expansion of product range"
Without context this is just a guess.

example sentence:
"Apple iPod product expansion includes iPhone software update", OR
"Grainger is launching the biggest product expansion in its..."
Peer comment(s):

neutral Naty Schwartz : I beg to differ. I think expansion of the product range is not the same as expanding a product. When you expand the product range you add more products. When you expand a specific product or pducts you add more options / add-ons / etc. for those products

Naty - note that my principal suggestion is "product expansion" and not "expansion of the product range". I also mentioned that context is necessary...
neutral Ron Armon : Sorry - that was meant for Naty... Anyway - I suggest "validations" & "outputs" from my hands-on experience in the field.

Adding controls and broaden options range for existing products

By deepening I think they mean that the options range for existing products should be broadened

--------------------------------------------------

I think BROADENING instead of BROADEN

As mentioned above I suggest using outputs instead of products.
Therefore, the translation should go:
Adding controls and expanding outputs.

Peer comment(s):

agree Shai Navé : Without additional context this is the best choice (or just broadening the prodcut range - all depends on context).

neutral Ron Armon : Hi Naty. I just sent "outputs" myself, so I'm glad you concurred with that. I also believe "controls" will be misconstrued in this context.

Ron, I think validation doesn't quite fit the bill here cause it gives a yes or no result - valid/invalid. Whereas a control allows you to change features as well as display their performance. But ofcourse I could be totally offtrack here.
