Italian term

destinati a rimanere

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
I libri sono destinati a rimanere e sono destinati a rimanere coloro che li producono: un saggio non si trasforma da solo in un libro, serve il lavoro degli editori. Serve che selezionino buone opere e buone idee, che ne facciano un buon editing, che confezionino i libri in un buon modo e che ne facciano una buona pubblicità. Il mestiere dell’editore futuro è un mestiere fatto sempre più di selezione, confezione, connessione e circolazione di notizie e idee che volano già da sole là fuori.

are here to stay as those who make them .....

Any alternative ?
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Tom in London

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

James (Jim) Davis Nov 6, 2015:
here to stay but it does not in my opinion translate the awkward element in the Italian.
Angela Guisci (asker) Nov 5, 2015:
@James
scusami ho letto ora la voce.
Allora: Gli strumenti per farlo sono molteplici, ma tra questi strumenti continueranno a esserci anche i libri (di carta o in digitale, non importa).
James (Jim) Davis Nov 5, 2015:
Cosa precede "I libri sono destinati a rimanere"? ....
Angela Guisci (asker) Nov 4, 2015:
@ James
sì in effetti ho dovuto rileggere la frase due o tre volte per capirla prima in italiano .....
James (Jim) Davis Nov 4, 2015:
The meaning is very clear. What I asked for was the sentence immediately before "I libri sono destinati a rimanere". To me the Italian is awkard. More natural italian, to my ear, would be "destinati a rimanere con noi". To me it is an unfinished phrase, while your proposed translation sounds much clearer, simpler and better than the Italian, unless there is something in the sentence that immediately precedes it.
Angela Guisci (asker) Nov 4, 2015:
@James
here it means that there will always be books ....paper books
James (Jim) Davis Nov 4, 2015:
What is the text that immediately precedes this text?
James (Jim) Davis Nov 4, 2015:
Italiano strano I feel that the proposed translation is much more natural and eloquent than the Italian, che a me (non madre lingua) suona strano. "destinato a rimanere qui per sempre" "destinato di rimanere come parte del nostro mondo", "destinato a rimanere un sogno/un segreto/irrisolto/un problema" ma "destinato a rimanere." punto e basta a me suona male. And I feel the same can be said of the English "destined to remain a dream" is perfectly natural English and a common phrase: https://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q="dest... but "destined to remain" full stop sounds strange, unless from the context it is clearly something obvious like "to remain on the island while the others left.", which is not the case of this italian text.
