This is from a quote by Saigou Takamori. The entire quote is
「どんな大きい事でもまたどんな小さな事でも、いつも正し道をふみ、真心を尽くし、決していつわりのはかりごとえを用いてはならない。人は多くの場合、あることにさしつかえが出来ると何か計略をつかって、そのさしつかえを通せば何とかなったかのように見えるが計略したがための心配がでたりして失敗するものである。」
I don't know what the はかりごとえ means. Thank you for any help.
