Russian term or phrase: передняя ось и передний мост

Подскажите, пожалуйста, как разграничить эти термины на английском? Словари и на тот, и на другой термин дают один вариант - front axle. А у меня вот такой текст:
"Передняя ось приводится в движение посредством механически подключаемого переднего моста и как следствие регулировка тяги при нажатии педали газа осуществляется не так плавно как на гидростатике."
В Интернете нашла описание: "Передний мост состоит из передней оси, передних колес и рулевой трапеции."

Explanation:
в данном случае смысл упоминания "механически подключаемый передний мост" - не сослаться на мост как на агрегат автомобиля, а указать факт механического подключения. Разумным английским вариантом будет:
The front axle is driven through a mechanical clutch coupling, therefore...
