Born in Prague, raised in Rio de Janeiro, lived in US, married to Californian, back in Brazil since 1973. Years of English teaching experience, and now over 15 years of full-time work as translator from/to English/Portuguese. Have developed several glossaries, based on considerable experience in translating contracts, tenders, reports, advertising copy, papers, studies, etc. Mining, business, legal, public relations are some of my favorite areas.
In the case of large projects, I divide up the work and outsource parts to competent, proven fellow translators. Prices vary depending on volume of work and delivery date. Normally I subtract 10% from net amount(after taxes)as finder's fee, and choose colleagues whose work needs very little revision or guidance. If the colleague can issue his/her own Nota Fiscal (and if this is acceptable to the client), no other deduction is made. If, however, I have to issue the Nota Fiscal (invoice) myself, for all the work, I first deduct my taxes, which are 14.5%. |
