The Controlling the Site lesson provides information about the procedures and controls in place to ensure that access to the site and to the equipment is controlled.
In the Bitumen Gantry Loading Facilities lesson, you’ll learn about the different types of gantry operations facilities. While the exact equipment will vary by site, the basic principles should remain the same.
The Gantry Operations Procedures covers the most commonly performed procedures for gantry operations.
In the HSSE for Gantry Operations lesson, you’ll learn about the controls, procedures, and equipment used to ensure that operations are performed safely and, in the event that emergency response is required, it can be provided efficiently and safely.
The Summary lesson provides a review of the most important concepts from each lesson.

Let’s begin by considering the products that we manufacture and distribute and how they must be delivered to the customer. Several methods are available, including:
road vehicle;
rail;
ships;
containers; and
cardboard or paper sacks.
Most customers require that the bitumen products are delivered at a temperature, which typically requires road delivery. In order to load the trucks for road delivery, gantry operations are normally required to safely load the truck.
Facilitator says:
So, how does loading fit into the overall business operation? Let’s look at a typical process.
On the customer side, the plant receives the order from the customer. On the supply side, feedstock and raw materials feed into the plant. The ordered products are manufactured and blended and then they are sampled and tested to ensure a quality product is being produced. We are then ready to load the correct quantity of the correct product into the correct vehicle, which will ultimately deliver the product to the customer’s site.
Facilitator says:
If more than one loading site is available, sites are chosen to source orders through careful consideration of several aspects. First, the customer must be within the geographic area covered by the site.
In addition, the chosen site portfolio must contain the product meeting the needs of the customer in the required lead time. These lead times are typically advertised with the site portfolio. Some grades will be available at a moment’s notice as part of their product offering, while others may need to be defined. The site must have sufficient stock and/or manufacturing capacity to provided the necessary stock in the required timeframe.
Decisions about how the product is delivered are additionally governed by economics. All sites have a cost per delivery to customers. These costs include feedstock costs and processing costs as well as the delivery distance to the customer (that is – the cost per kilometer or mile for that customer for the desired grade).
And you must have the resources to complete the delivery – for example, could you load three trucks per day for a customer (taking into consideration the other demands on the plant)?

Single Block & Bleed and Double Block & Bleed Valves are Modular Valves which offer the advantages of reduction in weight and overall dimensions and cost savings whilst offering a technically advanced product. As with standard ball valves they are operated in the fully open or shut position.
The design incorporates an integrally forged body with a bolted end closure which minimises potential leak paths and ensures positive sealing.
A key feature of the valve is the anti-blow out stem that ensures that the stem is positively retained by the body.
The performance of the outer stem seals is ensured by means of a stainless steel gland and the inner seals (primary seals) comprise an o-ring, a lip seal and then there are also secondary graphite seals which ensure a fire safe capability.
Outer sealing for the bleed valve is the same as the ball valves i.e. with both primary and secondary seals.
The balls are forged in high quality stainless steel and the action of the ball being pressed against the seats also contributes to the sealing performance of the valve.
Seat rings are located at either side of the ball and are aligned such that when the valves is fully open the port through the ball aligns with the bore of the seat ring.

The Business Secretary indicated that he would try to block the media tycoon’s News
Corporation from taking over BSkyB, the satellite broadcaster that Mr Murdoch already partly
owns.

The Liberal Democrat minister was also severely reprimanded.
A No 10 spokesman said: “Following comments made by Vince Cable to The Daily

“In addition, all responsibility for competition and policy issues relating to media, broadcasting,
digital and telecoms sectors will be transferred immediately to the Secretary of State for
Culture, Media and Sport.
“The Prime Minister is clear that Mr Cable’s comments were totally unacceptable and
inappropriate.”
Mr Cable said: “I fully accept the decision of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. I
deeply regret the comments I made and apologise for the embarrassment that I have
caused the Government.”
The disclosure about Mr Murdoch was the second revelation in extracts from a covertly
recorded conversation between Mr Cable and two reporters from this newspaper who posed
as Liberal Democrat supporters in his constituency
