My name is Licínia S. and I have lived and have worked as the Portuguese/ English Health Care Interpreter and Translator, at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, in Sydney Australia, where I have taken several in-service and out of service specialization courses , especially in the medical field, etc.
I am a NAATI level three translator in English to Portuguese and a level two Interpreter with a lot of experience in Interpreting, not so much in translating.
I am worried about the quality of the translations circulating nowadays, as far as technical fields are concerned, such as, in law, medicine, commerce etc.
I took Translation Studies at the University of Coimbra in the school year of 2010/11 but for personal reasons, I did well, but unfortunately, I couldn´t complete the course.
On my return to my home country, Portugal I have been an English and French teacher so far.At present, I am trying to finish my studies in translation, as I haven´t been placed in my teaching job this year but I can´t afford it, so I had to stop.
It hasn´t been easy for me, to complete my studies because of this financial difficulties, nevertheless, some people at my homeland have started sending me some work in translation (law patents), and I am now, a fresh beginner again, late in my life.
Personally, I think, and I am afraid, using CAT Tools, Trados, worfast, wordbee and so on, on my own and working in forums is still a challenging, unaffordable and unattainable task for me.
At present, I am just getting acquainted to my new profession ( translation and teaching part-time), and above all, I am just trying to breakthrough in translation free lance jobs, which is a bit harder than teaching at the moment.
Any help you need from me, I am available to help you if I can be useful.
Thank you all for sharing your translation expertise .
Not only am I grateful to all the help you have given me so far but I am willing to exchange knowledge, gained wisdom, as it builds up among this community of great Interpreters and translators.
Sincerely Yours,
