English to Portuguese: Marketing: Globalizing Your Site Adapting your website for success in global markets By XYZ, Ph.D General field: Marketing
Source text - English Regular Internet users expect nothing less than current information
personalized to their needs. Will non-U.S. visitors to your site be any
different? Will your site have any appeal beyond your comfort zone of
Americans waving dollar-denominated credit cards? Many companies start
globalizing by directly translating their U.S.-based e-commerce effort.
They rely on their foreign subsidiaries or they engage a localization service
to translate their site from English into French or Japanese. Then they sit
around and wait for the new sales to come pouring in. But it's unlikely that
such a direct translation of content will draw much more than bilingual
Web users. Why not? Think back to 1994 and 1995 when early adopters
were first setting up their Web sites.
Most companies simply shoveled existing corporate content onto their sites
with little or no concern about their brand. They didn't have the means to
target users with different messages. They were slow to adapt customer
service to the new medium.
Over time they increased the value of their sites by adapting products
and content to the unique capabilities of the Web and personalizing
interactions to individual users.
Success on the global Web will be no different. Rather than do a word-forword
translation of their sites, companies will tailor their new Web sites to
those markets. That means that will target their efforts to the
demographics of the countries in which they choose to sell. They will offer
customers only those products and services that can legally or practically
be sold and delivered to those countries. They must be able to accept
payment from customers with the credit cards commonly used in those
markets. And these companies must respect national privacy laws as they
populate their data warehouses, enhance customer information systems,
and implement upselling algorithms.

Remontando a
Numa
As

Source text - English Munich, Germany, May 11, 2004 – Taking the global launch of its next-
generation liquid chromatograph to an international audience, XYZ Corporation is
exhibiting its ABCTM System at Analytica 2004 in Munich, Germany, May 11.
Analytica is the world’s largest bi-annual conference and exposition on lab science.
XYZ's ABCTM System is a first-of-its-kind LC system designed to take full advantage
of the potential of novel sub two-micron particles to give scientists chromatographic
run times that are up to 9X shorter than today’s fastest HPLC systems, up to 2X
better peak capacity or resolution, 3X better routine sensitivity, and, generally
speaking, more information from a single run than anything today’s HPLC systems
can provide.

Source text - English Daniel, a buyer, has a need for 36.000 uniforms.
In the market, there are 5 suppliers who could
comply with this request if production could be
distributed equally per month. There is 1 supplier
who could deliver all 36.000 uniforms in one
delivery. Which specifications would probably
yield the best prices?
Request the 36.000 uniforms in 1 batch and
hence consolidate your volume.
Request 3.000 uniforms per month. As the
volumes per delivery are lower, more companies
might be able to comply with your request.
Functional specifications as this would probably
avoid over-specification.

fornecedor capaz de apresentar 36.000
uniformes numa única entrega. Quais as
especificações que conduzem aos melhores
preços?
Solicite os 36.000 num só lote consolidando
todo o volume.
Solicite 3000 uniformes por mês. Como os
volumes de entrega são menores podem existir
mais empresas capazes de responder ao
pedido.
Especificações funcionais como esta irão
provavelmente evitar o excesso de
especificações.
