English to Portuguese: On Classical Conditioning (Pavlov) General field: Science Detailed field: Psychology
Source text - English In Pavlov's experiments the unconditioned stimulus (US) was the dog food because its effects did not depend on previous experience. The metronome's sound is originally a neutral stimulus NS because it does not elicit salivation in the dogs. After conditioning, the metronome's sound becomes the conditioned stimulus (CS) or conditional stimulus; because its effects depend on its association with food. Likewise, the responses of the dog follow the same conditioned-versus-unconditioned arrangement. The conditioned response (CR) is the response to the conditioned stimulus, whereas the unconditioned response (UR) corresponds to the unconditioned stimulus.
Pavlov reported many basic facts about conditioning; for example, he found that learning occurred most rapidly when the interval between the CS and the appearance of the US was relatively short.
English to Portuguese: Article excerpt - On agriculture and electricity General field: Science Detailed field: Agriculture
Source text - English Chemical analysis showed defective nutrition in the plant placed under the cage, and withdrawn from electric influence. These experiments were greatly extended, and trials were made as to the relation of electrical effect and nitrification of the soil, and the assimilation of the ammonia of the atmosphere by plants.
(…) Trees withdraw, for their own profit, electricity from the atmosphere, and insulate, as completely as a metallic cage, the plants they cover. Insulation produced by a high tree can extend to the extreme limits of its foliage. A plant withdrawn from the influence of atmospheric electricity is subject to marked retardation in its development.

Source text - English “Hercules, I offer myself to you, because I know you are descended from the gods, and give proofs of that descent by your love to virtue, and application to the studies proper for your age. This makes me hope you will gain, both for yourself and me, an immortal reputation. But, before I invite you into my society and friendship, I will be open and sincere with you, and must lay down this, as an established truth, that there is nothing truly valuable which can be purchased without pains and labor.
The gods have set a price upon every real and noble pleasure. If you would gain the favor of the Deity, you must be at the pains of worshiping him; if the friendship of good men, you must study to please them; if you would be honored by your country, you must take care to serve it. In short, if you would be eminent in war or peace, you must become master of all the qualifications that can make you so. These are the only terms and conditions upon which I can propose happiness.”
I am a freelance translator based in Brazil, a native speaker of Portuguese, and I work with English-into-Portuguese translations. If you need reliable and professional translations in this language pair, feel free to contact me. If you want to know a little more about who I am, just check the information below, or ask me for my CV.
Background
I possess knowledge both in the areas of law and psychology, due to having studied both at a university. Although I have ultimately decided for a career in the area of languages, which are my true passion in life, I am nevertheless familiar with both of those areas, especially law, since before I began pursuing my current career, I worked in a law firm for around 2 years. In regard to English, my contact with it goes back to my childhood. In recent years, I've begun to study the language in a more formal manner, and I am currently working on an English linguistics degree.
Experience
I have a few years of experience as a language professional, by which I mean not only translating experience but also teaching. I began both activities at around the same time, and during this period, I've translated all sorts of documents in my language pair, including two e-books and voluntary work for agencies such as Translators Without Borders.
Availability
I'm available for translating all sorts of documents within my language pair and areas of knowledge. I can work on weekends and/or holidays if need be.
