English to Spanish: Regatta Detailed field: Tourism & Travel
Source text - English The vision of a month long celebration of nautical events in Banderas Bay was sparked by the idea of linking the four major regattas taking place in March together, at the same time “celebrating the beauty of the Bay and its people”
We have already witnessed the excitement of the Vallarta ’06 San Diego/Vallarta Race, the international MEXORC, and the WesMex Opti Regatta. The month’s bookend major “on the water” event of Festival Náutico 2006 is the Banderas Bay Regatta, a three day sailing race with a long tradition of enthusiastic participation by the sailors of the Bay.
The 10th annual Regatta takes place within the waters of the beautiful Bahía de Banderas, and its main ports of Puerto Vallarta (state of Jalisco), and its next door neighbor, Nuevo Vallarta (state of Nayarit). Weather conditions should be ideal: winds range from 10 to 15 knots in the afternoons, and the seas are generally from 1 to 4 feet. The race course is only two miles from the channel entrance of Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit.
PHRF ratings are used to divide competing boats into fleets. Regattas in recent years have seen up to 8 fleets, from catamarans to the popular cruising fleet to megayachts. This sailing event is organized and run by two local nonprofit organizations: Regatas y Deportes Marítimos - Bahía de Banderas (Sección Jalisco, A.C., and Sección Nayarit, A.C., affiliated with the Mexical Saling Federation) and the Vallarta Yacht Club
Spanish to English: Painter Cassandra Shaw Detailed field: Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Translation - English The link between this kind of music and painting in Cassandra Shaw’s work goes beyond being a topic for inspiration. It gives the impression of being there through the rhythm and syncopated harmony perceptible in her artwork
Human figure plays a preponderant role in the thematic content of her work. Characters, both by themselves than in crowded and festive scenes, appear represented voluntarily away from the canons of habitual proportions in the drawing of figures through a successful intent to accentuate or remark certain physical characteristics that give emphasis to their emotional expression. Music, specifically jazz, is one of the other main elements of her themes and it could be said that, maybe an important amount of spontaneity, freshness and colorful rhythm impregnated in each of these scenes.
Oil paintings on canvas, full of matter and close to impressionism, also describe still life and surrealistic landscapes, where chromatic richness of the writing and its ample tone variety hold the space quality of her painting in fantastic atmospheres that, even though conformed by numerous elements, keep a great compositional balance.
