FAQ on WWA visibility Jul 1, 2008

I am posting below the related FAQ:

9. What are my options regarding the visibility of my WWA entries?

WWA information is displayed in the upper right corner of your profile. There are three options for the visibility of this information:

a) Entries visible only to the profile owner

This is the default condition. Profiles are created this setting already in place.

This is how the feature will appear in a new profile which has not received WWA entries:

After receiving WWA entries, you will see this:

... while a visitor will see:

b) Entries visible to visitor

If you choose to click on the "Show to visitors" button, you will see:

And now visitors to your profile will be able to see the entries:

Clicking on the number of entries will open a box where detailed information about the entries will be displayed.

c) WWA hidden from owner

If you have chosen to hide your WWA entries from visitors to your profile, you can also make the feature invisible for you. To do this, just click on the "Hide from me" button. All that will be visible then is a button which you can use to make the WWA feature visible again if you choose so in the future.

So in this case you will see:

And a visitor to your profile will see no trace of WWA:

Options are a bit different for profiles that received Blue Board feedback, see the related feedback.

Regards,
Enrique

"No Feedback collected" Jul 1, 2008

That's what it says on my page - an option that the poll should have included, in my opinion.
It's not that I haven't received feedback yet. I've just never asked for any and don't plan to do so. So I chose Other-N/A.

Not visible Jul 1, 2008

I didn't collect any feedback, but some agencies I worked with entered WWA comments. I keep them invisible and have no intention to change this in the future. Had there been an option to make only the client names invisible, then I might have considered using it - but not necessarily.

2) I don't consider WWA a meaningful marketing tool, because it doesn't give me the opportunity to provide any substantial information on what I have done. Therefore, I prefer using the Project History tool and list my important projects together with valuable and relevant information like the subject field, volume, dates, styles, specialized knowledge, maybe formatting and CAT skills, etc., and yes, together with comments from clients whose names I can still keep confidential.

Same as Nesrin anz Özden, especially Özden's "I don't want to announce my clients' names". Make that "I can't and I won't announce my clients' names".

I still find it funny that I can be filtered out in searches by potential outsourcers due to my refusal to breach the confidentiality agreements I have signed, but that has already been discussed to no end.

Greetings.

Same here.

Furthermore, I've been wondering for a while what do outsourcers think of WWA's. I think I requested WWA entries to a few clients, only got two. But after careful consideration, I realized what Özden said, I don't feel comfortable about publishing my clients' information (for several reasons), so I stopped. Now I wonder how agencies and outsourcers really feel about these type of requests and if they find them annoying. Although I been tempted to contact other ProZ clients about this.

Instead of references Jul 1, 2008

I do have WWA's, and I use them instead of references.

Whenever someone asks me for references, I tell them to check my WWA's.

I only ask agencies for WWA's, never direct clients. So far, they are happy to provide them. I don't ask unless I've worked with them for quite a while, though. I usually provide a BB entry for them at the same time.

If there is any kind of trouble in the working relationship, I don't post a positive BB and I don't ask for WWA's.... See more

I get the impression that agencies prefer to enter a WWA rather than give a reference. I would, anyway.

What if you work for direct clients only?

Exactly, plus I don't want to bother my clients asking for something that I obviously already know, i.e. that they are willing to work again with me and I don't see how this could be otherwise beneficial to others.

Visible to me, or to visiters? Jul 1, 2008

I don't think the question is clear. I answered "yes," but I would have to check to see if it's visible to visitors.

Now, why would this breach a NDA? When I enter a confidentiality agreement, I agree not to disclose the translations, subject or text I deal with, but there is no trouble at all to state the name of my clients. Also, I can ask for feedback and the clients are always free to say "no" if they want to be kept confidential.

I consider the WWA a useful tool in order to provide references instead of having to ask my clients for a reference every time I need one. Plus, I can always choose which of my clients I want to show.

Heck no! Jul 2, 2008

My client list is one of my most valuable business assets, along with my TMs and termbases. Why in the world would I publish it?

I'm always happy to help people with terms in KudoZ or give helpful advice to colleagues, but it's quite another thing to shoot myself in the foot by giving away a client list it has taken me years to build up. Several clients have posted WWAs to my profile (all positive) but I don't display them.
