tak ako ste zamyslali; "ucinny cistiaci prostriedok" (nie vodny)
detergent by som zvazila, nakolko sa slovo velmi udomacnilo v nasom j. bez toho aby sme si uvedomili co je to detergent. Vacsina z nas pozna pod tymto vyrazom praci prostriedok.
detergent- pripravok, latka s vyraznou cistiacou schopnostou (saponáty)
saponát - synteticke povrchovo aktivne latky pouzivane (namiesto mydla) ako pracie al. namacacie a pod.

Myslím si, že toto spojenie by mohlo byť zrozumiteľné. (Tak, ako je čosi/ktosi do nepohody, mohol by byť aj saponát do tvrdej vody.)
