Italian term

scuroni

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Architecture
per montaggio cardini e guide di persiane e scuroni

Not found in any of about 20 dictionaries. Google images shows shutters, which appear to be identical to Persiane. I was thinking of "black out something or other" but can't find any synonym for shutters either.

Any good ideas most welcome.

Discussion

Russell Jones (asker) Jun 22, 2012:
Thank you everyone for the thoughts. I suppose shutters (of both the types that Daniela has helpfully defined) can be either hinged or horizontally sliding (as Tom says), so maybe I'll just do as Lara suggests.
Daniela Zambrini Jun 22, 2012:
persiane vs scuroni persiane can let light in through orientable/adjustable slats
scuroni have no slats (full panel to block the light out)

hope this helps :-)

shutters

This is probably just another word for the same thing. I find that Italian often has more possibilities for using different words for the same thing than English, so there is probably not really a difference.

blinds

I'm thinking this because they have guides, so they must be rolling/sliding as opposed to hinged
