French term

édition

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Ceramics
The word édition is used throughout this document to mean, it seems, a release of works, or maybe an exhibition, or maybe just a display. The works are ceramic vases and plates. I can find no translation of édition for the visual arts, only publishing, music and TV, where the translation would be "edition." Is there a ceramics-specific translation for édition? Here are a couple of examples:

Nous avons pu compléter l'historique de l'implication de la galerie dans le parasitage constant ** l'édition *** de céramiques.

C'est en effet à partir du mois de mai 2001 que M X est intervenu au nom de l'artiste pour éliminer *** l'édition*** et a engagé une action en justice.

Discussion

Helen Shiner May 1, 2015:
Edition It could be an 'edition'. Picasso's ceramics, for instance, were produced in an edition of x number of (signed/stamped?) copies. Is what we are talking about here a posthumous, unauthorised edition, or even a edition of fake copies of an artist's work, which they feel needs to be destroyed? Are they talking about taking legal action against the perpetrators?
writeaway May 1, 2015:
agree with the WR comment a 'de' is clearly missing.
Daryo May 1, 2015:
something is not right in this sentence Nous avons pu compléter l'historique de l'implication de la galerie dans le parasitage constant [something missing here] l'édition de céramiques.

this makes it easier to follow the text:
Nous avons pu compléter l'historique de l'implication de la X Gallery New York, avec votre concours et celui de Monsieur Untel, dans le parasitage constant l'édition de céramiques produite par la galerie Y allant jusqu'à l'organisation d'une campagne de dénigrement.

Look up the verb éditer in any Fr-En dictionary That will show you several options, including those suggested.

edition

About 50 years ago, when Picasso began creating ceramics in collaboration with the Madoura Pottery workshop, he intended the pieces to be accessible and affordable. As such, he created some works in editions of 500 or more, and made them available for purchase directly from the workshop. Today, Picasso's ceramic works are still readily accessible, available at auction, in art galleries, and in the private market.

agree Michael Wetzel : Agree "edition" is standard term among prints, cast sculpture, etc. Don't see any reason not to assume that this is what is meant. http://www.getty.edu/vow/AATFullDisplay?find=edition&logic=A...

For instance producing a series of ceramics from the same moulds, or a series of copies of the same original, or developing a theme.

agree Daryo : most likely here: "developing a theme"

Thanks Daryo. As you noted, there is something not quite right about the sentence, which makes it hard to be sure what it is about.
